🎬 Week 5 of 6: From the Edit Suite to the Film Set

This week, our young filmmakers continued their creative journey in the FilmWorks Trust 6-Week Workshop, proudly supported by BBC Children in Need.

The cohort split into two production teams, each experiencing a different stage of the filmmaking process.

One group headed into the edit suite, refining their vox pop interviews by selecting the strongest responses, arranging clips, and learning how editing shapes the pace, emotion, and message of a film.

Meanwhile, the second group stepped behind the camera to produce a brand-new 6-shot film, Choices. Through visual storytelling, they explored the importance of making healthy decisions, carefully planning each shot before bringing their story to life on location.

By experiencing both production and post-production, participants are gaining a well-rounded understanding of the filmmaking process—from capturing authentic voices in the community to crafting meaningful stories through film.

It has been fantastic to see our young people growing in confidence, creativity, teamwork, and technical ability as they prepare for the final week of the workshop.

🎥 Week 5 of 6 complete. Great filmmakers know that every story is shaped twice—once on set and once in the edit.

“I liked being able to edit one day and film the next. It made me realise how every part of making a film is important.”

🎥 Week 4 of 6 complete. Every great story starts by listening.

“I was nervous to interview someone at first, but once we started talking, it felt really natural. It was amazing hearing people’s different opinions and stories.”
