🎬 Session 5: Lights. Camera. Action!

After weeks of planning, story development and preparation, it was finally time to bring our films to life.

This session was all about production—working together as a professional film crew to capture every scene.

The young filmmakers stepped confidently into their production roles, with everyone taking responsibility for an important part of the shoot. We had producers keeping everything organised, directors leading the creative vision, camera operators and camera assistants capturing each shot, gaffers and lighting assistants shaping the light, sound recordists monitoring audio, and our talented cast bringing the stories to life on screen.

We began by filming our interior scenes, carefully setting up each shot, adjusting lighting and checking every detail before the camera rolled. The group quickly discovered that filmmaking is all about collaboration, patience and problem-solving, with every department working together to achieve the best possible result.

Once the indoor scenes were complete, the crew headed outside to film on location. Using the locations they had scouted during pre-production, they transformed everyday spaces into believable film sets—including the exterior of our spaceship, which became one of the highlights of the day.

Throughout the session, the young people experienced what it’s really like to work on a film set, communicating through professional crew roles and supporting one another to keep production moving smoothly. They learned that every successful film depends on teamwork, preparation and attention to detail.

Watching them operate as a real production crew was incredible. From calling the slate to setting lights, framing shots and directing performances, they weren’t just pretending to make films—they were making them.
